Each month, the Border Patrol recognizes students from the local participating high schools who are excelling in their academic pursuits, promoting a drug-free lifestyle, well-rounded, involved in extra curricular activities and are actively involved in their school and community. Students who are selected must be nominated by their teachers and counselors.
Students have to have a drug-free lifestyle, be involved in extracurricular activities, and must maintain a B average.
The students are required to write an essay about themselves including their strengths and weaknesses.
The "Head of the Class" program was started in the Laredo Sector of the Border Patrol in 1994 by Chief Patrol Agent Jose E. Garza and Border Patrol Agent Ruben Garcia. |
